I have been looking at different fabrics in relation to needs for a light backpack, wash and dryability, warmth for layering in mountain areas. Silk seems to fill the bill. I would like to hear about practical experiences with silk. Thanks, Fran I love silk or silk blends for traveling. I take silk undershirts whenever I travel; took silk turtlenecks to the UK last April; my travel nightgowns are silk; and my favorite summer Ts for travel are a silk-cotton blend. At home I usually wear silk long johns in the winter. These are all knits; I have not tried any broadcloth or other woven silks. I find silk knits are extremely light and small in the suitcase and wash easily. I usually take an inflatable hanger and a microfiber towel; I wring the washed clothes out in the towel and hang them on the inflated hanger to dry without crease marks. Most of my silk is from WinterSilks. Another item I have found extremely useful is a multipocket shirt; I have several from TravelSmith in cotton-nylon blends that have 4 pockets, at least one of which is hidden inside a regular pocket. The blends also wash and dry easily with few wrinkles, though they do weigh more than silk. dress1dress Barn Revisited
I’ve had the “we’re rethinking dress Barn” tagline in the rotation for a while now, and I finally stepped into a dress Barn this weekend to see for myself.
You see, I am going to be doing a reading at this event at Colorado State University. (If anyone is in Colorado and is interested in coming by, let me know! I have three poems in the exhibit, and they’re all from my thesis manuscript, Curves, which is all about the body and so is related to this blog kind of!) Anyway, I didn’t have anything to wear, and I found myself having to park in front of the dress Barn because the Trader Joe’s parking lot was full, so I said what the hell and went inside.Theoretical studies have shown that many of the new graphitic arrangements are very stable,graphite in some cases more that C60 itself, and related structures appear naturally in certain graphitic materials. One derivative, helical in structure, is analagous to that seen in crystal growth affected by screw disslocations.
First impression? “Ugh.” Lots of incredibly ugly two-piece sequined stuff in the “woman’s” section of the store. But then a dress caught my eye, peeking out from the all the applique crap and caftans, an incredibly cute black dress with hot pink piping and a crinoline peeking out from underneath (with more hot pink piping) and it was $50 and I was like hell yeah, I’ll try that on! Long story short, it is adorable. I ended up also picking up a cropped satin jacket to wear over it (looks perfect) and a second dress that I couldn’t resist. And a shawl in case the jacket doesn’t work out.
I’ll definitely take a picture of myself in the dress so you can all admire the fashion, but if you want to see it live and in person, and you happen to live in Colorado, this is your lucky…month! 227973540 |

2. Borrow a relative’s chinese dress. Sometimes those old chinese dresses are outdated beyond repair, but then again, sometimes they’re not. Rented gowns are becoming more and more common, with the benefit of big selections for a fraction of the cost of purchasing one (as low as $150).
